Profiling? You be the judge

After reading this -- Bomber fled through woman's house -- I have to wonder is this is profiling. C'mon. The guy had a tube of Pillsbury biscuits explode in his knapsack. It made a huge mess. But since he looks like he might be from the 'wrong' part of the world, everyone heard a pop and assumed he was trying to blow up the train....so he got the hell out of there. It doesn't sound like he "fled". It sounds more like he strolled off in a non-chalant -I'm not embarrassed- sort of way.

In the profiler's defence, he did climb a fence to get into someone's yard, climb in their window and then exit through their front door, which is just damn weird. It sounds like he was very polite about it, which is also damn weird. Couldn't he walk around the house or block of houses? Maybe he saw that the bus he wanted was at the stop so he took a shortcut figuring -- hey all these limey bastards think I'm a blimey bombing bugger because my biscuit dough blew up. Sod this for a lark. I'm going to cut through this flat and catch that trolley home.

Who the hell knows.

Tragically Stupid

My Google Toolbar popped up a blurb on this story: Woman Dies Trying to Win a Wii. It just happened to catch my eye at the time. I usually ignore the little popups. I've heard stories of people breaking windows, breaking plasma screens, hurting pets and hurting other people while using these things but now someone has actually died just trying to get one. There are many things that make this story sad. She was trying to win the Wii for her kids -- which is nice-- so it's sad she died. I doubt anyone ever died trying to win a Rainbow swing set, though. Also, how did the radio station get a contest like this past their lawyers? Is everyone so used to the 'Fear Factor' type reality TV shows that they figure anything goes for a prize? I have no medical training what so ever and I could have told them that drinking that much water could kill a person -- not to mention what may happen if somone with more will power than brains had their bladder rupture. Good grief. I guess she didn't win the Wii but I figure the radio station will be getting her kids something even better -- college educations.

Maybe they'll go into medicine not media/marketing.

New Stuff

I'm finally on lunch. I did some more work on my templates yesterday. Now I have news links on the right. They will update from the news websites when you refresh (if the news website has new headlines). They are the same headlines that I am currently displaying on csccdigital.com but I think I was the only one that was using that site.

I'm going to put up a new web site at that domain. I want to have a website about my lathe projects and modes with pictures. I'm going to use MT to do it since it's easy to update remotely. I haven't taken any pictures of my lathe yet, but will soon.

I wrote a quick cgi script last night that combines the movable type template with my own addons like the site links and the news headlines and combines them as my index template. It seems to work really well.

Let me know if you'd like to see headlines from a particular site and I'll try to add it.

Cascading Style Sheets...yuk

I forgot that the CSS file for MT is rebuilt by the administrative program that is used to post. I'd made a number of changes yesterday and then lost them all when I rebuilt my website.

I also forgot how much of a screwed up mess the CSS file that came with MovableType was when I got it. I've added to it since then but I'm going to have to get a book or something. There's a ton of stuff in there that I'm sure I'm not using but I'm not sure I dare remove it. All the junk makes it very hard to find the stuff I am using so I can change it.

Well, enough griping. I did get my changes made. I did all that while watching football. It's a blah post season for me. The Pack didn't make it to the playoffs because the NY Giants won their last reg-season game. Then the Giants go and piddle it down their leg yesterday. Bah. At least Michele's Colts are still in there for now.

I'm on the phones again...or still. I'm now supporting 2 applicaitons and my training has caught up with the rest of my team. We will all be getting additional training soon so they wanted to get me up to speed.

There really isn't much else going on in my life right now. Michele is going to Denver on Wenesday and coming back on Thursday -- assuming they don't get 6 feet of snow or something. I'm going to be getting more tools in the mail soon. They are already ordered. If the temperatures here continue to stay where they are -- which I know they won't -- then I'll be able to get out in the garage and do some machining. I'm hoping to take some pictures and info about my lathe setup and modifications (minor so far).

I'm learning how to add pictures

I have been doing some updates to my site. I've done some minor stuff like change some colors, etc -- mostly to get more familiar with css sheets and moveable type. Now I realize that I've never added a picture to my site and adding a picture is something that I will be doing quite a bit more with the next site I want to set up so......
fishing_with_moses.jpg
here's a picture I received in one of the hundreds of spam-type emails I get from people who don't know the difference between the "forward" and the "delete" button. It's kind of funny. Don't worry. If you've seen this before, it's ok. I know I didn't get this picture from anyone that reads this site.

About 5 years ago I set up an additional email address with Midcontinent. It was Joker@sio.midco.net. A year ago someone else was allowed to sign up with the same email address, even though I was still using that account. The result was that I got a lot of the email that was intended for him. This picture came out of one of them.

I'm glad that Midcontinent is such a rock solid, security minded ISP.

Who Knew?

I got a speeding ticket on Tuesday. I haven't had one for a couple of years. Who knew that Cliff Ave. was 30 mph between 49th and 57th streets?? Minnesota Ave is 40 mph in that same area.

I gave Julie a ride home from work and go nailed after I got back on Cliff Ave. She's lived over there forever and didn't know it was a 30 mph zone. Oh well. He got me fair and square... I saw him sitting on a side street and looked at my speed... 40.. let off the gas and was looking around for a speed limit sign... none there. I didn't think anything of it but he swung right out and hit his lights. I was going along with the traffic but there wasn't anyone behind me... I was probably the only person he could pull out and get without causing an accident.

I'll pay the fine but I'm blaming Julie. She owes me $79 worth of beer, juke box money and dart games. That's like 2 nights out for me. She'll have to start paying at Big D's B-Day thing at Willy's on Saturday night. Whooo hooo free beer for me. See ya there.

What did you do for Amateur Night?

No, I don't want to know your latest poll dancing moves. I was wondering what everyone was doing on New Year's Eve. I didn't hear from anyone except Jason Krumvieda so Michele and I spent the evening with them.

We ate at Applebees -- E 10th St -- and then bowled a few games at Eastway Bowl. After bowling and meeting Darrin K's new girlfriend (she's nice), we went back to the Krumvieda's and 'Chele and I whooped Jason and Sasha's butt and some game called "Sequence" that we had never played before.

Quite fun all the way around.

We stayed up way too late and my sleep got all messed up so I was still up at 2:00 am and had to get up for work at 5:15 am. It was more like a nap then a night's sleep.

I had training again today and will have for most of the week. I still have to log into the phones at 7, training starts at 8. Today my new 19" wide screen flat panel monitor showed up so I was allowed to AUX for Training at 7 and set that up. Then I needed updated video drivers and had to download new drivers for the monitor. That took up all my time and I didn't have to take a phone call . ;-P
